We love this story - it’s such a homegrown story. Katie & Seb met at a house party of a mutual friend. Seb was sitting in the sunroom, painted in the golden light of the sun, while sitting in a golden wheelchair, watching people play ping-pong. On their wedding day, we couldn’t replicate the golden wheelchair, but we did manage to get that golden light, and we also played beer pong. So it was pretty damn close!
This time they first met was around 2014, and they became amazing friends. It wasn’t until 2017 that they started their relationship. But of course, as you’ve all probably worked out, this relationship blossomed into full-blown golden-lit love.
According to each them, Katie is the short, loud, fiery Texan with a huge heart and a love for queso, and Seb is a taller, quiet, calm Aussie with a huge heart who didn't know he had a love for queso! But it turns out, over time, he became the one who always paid her real attention and could her mood up whenever she was feeling down. And she was the first person he ever let in - she saw his vulnerable side when no-one else had seen that. It was more that he felt so comfortable with her and no-one else, that he finally shared that side of himself.
When we asked them about a favourite moment they have for each other, Seb said that there are too many to list. Moments that come to mind would be seeing her with her family back in Texas, her reaction to his proposal (even though the suspense almost killed him) and just knowing when she is truely happy because her little cheek dimples appear when she smiles. Katie said that it was the first coast trip that they ever took as a couple: they had stayed at his parents place down at Durras. The bathroom wasn't attached to the house and she had to go outside to use the facilities. There was a massive big scary wild kangaroo hanging out just outside the house. Scared as she has always been of larger animals, she made Seb come with her because that Kangaroo was just staring at her. He giggled the whole way but made sure she got back to the house safe and sound. On that same trip they played mini golf and Katie made a bunch of crazy hole-in-ones yet he still managed to beat her anyway! … And every game since then!
But the most important question we asked was about when they first fell in love. For Katie, the moment was the day she realised how important Seb had become to her as a person and not just her best friend. They had gone on a trip to Sydney together as his first nephew had just been born and they spent the whole time having important conversations about their lives and everything else under the sun. For Seb, there was a moment while watching a movie together while still best friends. He had to leave for a while after it and it really hurt to leave. His heart was pounding ridiculously loudly that night too. All signs of love to me, and signs we’re sure a lot of people recognise!
But to that proposal that we mentioned earlier, it was Seb who proposed on the 1st of September 2021. While Seb said he wasn't feeling too well that particular day, Katie got home from work and Seb offered to make bacon cheese burgers on the grill and have a little fire in the backyard as he was feeling better and didn't want to waste our anniversary night. During the night, Seb offered to go get Katie another drink. And then, a little later, he started acting a little weird but then got down on one knee and brought out a beautiful diamond ring that he had been hiding in his jacket since he went to go get another drink. He gave a little speech and asked that important question but Katie froze and started crying. She was so happy she couldn’t say what she wanted to say immediately, giving Seb a little heart attack in the process. But, she finally composed herself and finally gave him the answer he hoped for, and not what he was expecting due to the time it took for her to respond!
