Ally & Adrian Fugill

“Hold hands. That’s what you’re meant to do. Keep doing that and don’t let go. That’s the secret.” It’s one of the most famous lines from Doctor Who, and after having been together for 13 years before getting married, it’s a safe bet that Ally was certainly “the girl who waited”…
Their story starts at Video Ezy. And for those who are a little too young, that was a place where you could go and rent video tapes to put into your VCR at home, similar to renting DVDs from a vending machine these days. ;) Ally came in to borrow Star Trek Next Generation tapes. Adrian thought Ally looked cute in her jeans and baggy jumper. Ally thought Adrian looked creepy and about ten years older with his long black hair and black suit. Ally would return each weekend to return the ones she borrowed and hire more. Adrian, who at this point was socially incompetent, kept trying to talk to her, but was mostly dismissed. Once All moved house, Adrian didn’t see her anymore and nearly forgot about her completely.
Thankfully, this did not set the tone for the relationship, but does add as a source of amusement in telling their story.
A few years later, Ally had a chance encounter with old friend, Chrissy (Ally used to dance with Chrissy as kids), which leads Chrissy to inviting Ally to a sort of belated birthday celebration drinks night at a local drinking hole. Unbeknownst to Ally, Chrissy knows Adrian through working at Video Ezy and invites Adrian to the same watering hole under the pretence of celebrating her new job.
Upon seeing each other, Ally and Adrian stare at each other long enough for Chrissy to look at back and forth between them several times before their gaze broke. Chrissy introduced them and they noted that they thought each looked familiar. Chrissy said she was going out for a smoke and left, leaving Ally and Adrian to spend the next hour or so playing pool (Ally won). Upon Chrissy’s return Adrian and she went to get another round of drinks.
“So how are you getting along?” she asked Adrian.
“Yeah, good,” he replied.
“I thought you would.”
Adrian turned to face Chrissy.
“You totally set us up, didn’t you?” he questioned.
“Why?” Chrissy asked. “Is it working?”
“Yes!” Adrian responded.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Ally & Adrian bonded over their shared love of sarcasm, felines, books, and mocking each other (they assure us it’s all friendly banter!) and over time, their relationship grew and grew to the point that they could not imagine life without the other.
Of course it’s no surprise that Ally didn’t have to say the answer out loud when Adrian proposed, seeing as they had been together for so long… It was a beautiful spring evening after going out for dinner for their anniversary, Adrian took a quick detour and they walked along Lake Ginninderra. Without too much ceremony, Adrian took out a Tardis ring box, opened it and said, “I’m not very good at this”. Ally teared up a little and let him put the ring on her finger.
To celebrate their wedding, we were taken to the breathtaking Bendooley Estate in Berrima, spending the whole day there. Here are just a few photos from their day…
